Frequent breaker trips, a fuse box or split-bus panel, aluminum branch wiring, or plans to add an EV charger or heat pump are the usual triggers. Some older panel brands are known fire risks and insurers increasingly refuse them. An inspection and a load calculation give you a real answer either way; sometimes load management avoids the upgrade entirely.

Usually yes. Modern slim LED pot lights need very little clearance and can be fished into most finished ceilings with small, patchable openings. Insulated ceilings and hidden joists complicate some layouts, which is why we scope the ceiling before promising a pattern.
